'11SPORTS Table Tennis Developement Programme' initiative in partnership with Mumbai First gathers steam
11SPORTS recently launched the '11SPORTS Table Tennis Developement Programme' initiative in association with not-for-profit social organization Mumbai First, in October 2018. The initiative is supported by the Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai (MCGM) and facilitates a platform for Table Tennis in the municipal schools that creates equal opportunities and taps the potential of budding paddlers across the city.
The first phase of the implementation of this initiative has already kick-started with 11 school since October 2018, only set to grow exponentially in the coming months. Some of the schools include:
11SPORTS provides all schools associated with the program with international grade equipment and qualified coaches. The initiative aligns with 11SPORTS' over-arching objective of changing the Table Tennis landscape in the country, starting with the grassroots. Along with supporting the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) events across the board, this is 11SPORTS' effort to tap the potential of kids from diverse backgrounds. And by associating with the municipal schools, 11SPORTS hopes to have more and more talent coming through from all sections of society, especially those from economically challenged backgrounds.
11SPORTS' co-owners Vita Dani and Niraj Bajaj, are pleased at the response the initiative is receiving from all quarters in the city of Mumbai and from patrons around the state and country.
"Our future Sharath Kamals and Manika Batras are all around us while they probably aren’t even aware of their potential yet. This initiative will surely help unearth hidden gems given our robust network. But to start off with, this initiative will help inculcate the importance of sport and recreation in our Municipal schools, given our special attention. Children won’t approach sport just as a session in their school day that is there for leisure. This initiative brings a special platform for the Municipal school children to explore their potential in the sport while focusing on improving on their physical fitness too," said 11SPORTS Chairperson Mrs. Vita Dani.
"The initiative has great potential in providing equal opportunities in Table Tennis while providing systematic training and developing the skill and talent these budding paddlers possess. Their background and socio-economic stature has no standing in sport, all that matters is their talent and will to learn. And that is what this initiative will tap into. We hope this model is implemented across Mumbai city and it becomes a beacon of inspiration for other cities and states so that we can make it a nationwide effort and further generate awareness., said Mr. Niraj Bajaj, Arjuna Awardee and former TT National Champion.
"The Table Tennis education and training will be held during the regular Physical Education class as part of the regular curriculum for the Elementary School students. Then if any of them show promise, they would be given that extra coaching," said Mr. Kamlesh Mehta, Arjuna Awardee and eight-time national TT champion.
